FAQs

We have put together this page to answer some of the common questions we receive.

Please contact us if there is something else we can help with.

Yes Pennicott Wilderness Journeys operates tours daily all year round, every day except Christmas Day.

The tour times are listed on the website for each individual tour - Bruny Island Cruises, Tasman Island Cruises, Wineglass Bay Cruises, Cape Raoul Cruises, Iron Pot Cruises, Tasmanian Seafood Seduction, Freycinet Aqua Express, Bruny Island Traveller, and Port Arthur Bus Service.

If you would like to join a tour, please ensure that you make a booking to ensure we reserve a place for you on your preferred departure.

Yes, we strongly recommend booking ahead because our tours often sell out.

By making a booking you will ensure that you've got a seat on the tour and you avoid missing out, especially during peak periods.

We also have a very flexible cancellation policy which provides flexibility if you pre-book and your plans change.

You are on holiday and we want your travel plans to be flexible. However our tours are often fully booked and we may have a waiting list for guests interested in coming along. Therefore if you are running late or decide not to join a tour, we would appreciate it if you please contact us to cancel your booking as soon as possible.

Our standard cancellation policy for tours is:

  • Freycinet Aqua Express - 100% fee will be charged for cancellations within 48 hours of departure and 25% fee for cancellations within 7 days of tour departure.
  • Other tours - 100% fee for cancellations within 24 hours of a tour departure, and 50% fee for cancellations within 48 hours of tour departure.

Alternative cancellation policies may apply for private charters, group bookings or special event charters. We will advise you if an alternative cancellation policy applies.

Tickets purchased through third-party retailers and travel agents may be subject to additional cancellation terms and conditions imposed by the retailer.

Bruny Island Traveller & Tasmanian Seafood Seduction
Our Bruny Island Traveller and Tasmanian Seafood Seduction tours are not recommended for young children.

Other Tours
Children of all ages are welcome on our tours and we take many children onboard our vessels. As parents you are probably the best judge as to how your children will cope with being on the water, but we have found that the majority of children enjoy the experience of travelling onboard a boat and viewing the wildlife. Please ensure that you do dress your children warmly as it does get cold out on the water. You might also like to chat to our team a couple of days prior to the cruise to double-check the forecast weather conditions.

Our team are really happy to answer any questions you have about the weather, the experience and travelling with children - click here to Contact Us.

We usually request guests to check-in 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. However you are very welcome to check-in earlier if you would like to. Unfortunately if you are running late we are unable to wait and you will miss the tour!

When making your booking, you should receive a booking confirmation which will contain information about your meeting point and time of departure. If you book directly with Pennicott Wilderness Journeys, you should receive this information directly from us. Or if you book via a third-party agent, they should provide this information to you.

If you are unsure or would like to double-check any information, please contact us.

Yes absolutely.

All our boats have an onboard toilet which you are welcome to use during the cruise if needed.

Our Bruny Island Traveller, Iron Pot Cruises and Tasmanian Seafood Seduction tours all depart from Hobart.

For Bruny Island Cruises, Tasman Island Cruises and Cape Raoul Cruises, we offer the option of a day tour including transfers from Hobart. Please ensure you select this option when you book.

We also operate a Port Arthur Bus Service which provides bus transport between Hobart and Port Arthur.

Unfortunately we don't offer bus transfers from Hobart for Wineglass Bay Cruises or Freycinet Aqua Express.

Bruny Island Traveller
We provide hotel pickup at selected hotels within the Hobart CBD for our Bruny Island Traveller tour only. Hotel pickups do need to be pre-arranged so please contact us to make the arrangements.

Iron Creek Estate
If you are staying at Iron Creek Estate in Sorell, we can offer pickup for our Tasman Island Cruises Full Day Tour and on our Hobart-Port Arthur Bus Service. Please contact us to arrange this.

Other Locations
Unfortunately we are not able to offer hotel pickups for our other tours and you will need to make your own way to the departure point. Fortunately most hotels in the Hobart CBD are within walking distance of our Pennicott Wilderness Journeys booking centre in Hobart, so we are easily accessible for most guests staying in Hobart who wish to join us.

We have a very low incidence of seasickness on our boats, as they have been designed specifically for these coastal conditions. However, seasickness can be a issue for a small number of people. Our team have had 25 years of experience dealing with this and have developed some very effective techniques to minimise the chance of seasickness occurring.

On all our boats we have all-natural Travel Calm Ginger tablets which we have found to be extremely effective in preventing seasickness in most people. Our staff can also suggest a number of other things to further minimise the chances of seasickness occurring.

  • There is a lot less movement at the back of the boat, so we recommend taking a seat closer to the rear of the vessel.
  • Avoid getting too hot - keep your body temperature on the cooler side.
  • Keep your vision clear - if you are wearing glasses or sunglasses keep the lenses clean.
  • Avoid looking through binoculars or cameras.
  • Stay away from acidic foods before the cruise such as orange juice and coffee.
  • Engage in slow, deep breaths and look towards the horizon.

Communication is the key - if you start to feel unwell please let our staff know so we can do our best to take care of you.

Our tours operate in areas that are home to many species of wildlife. Sightings vary daily but guests on our cruises often see seals, dolphins, seabirds and sometimes whales during their migration season. There is always something to see, but every day is different and we cannot guarantee exactly which wildlife we will see on any given day.
